Back in the old days, Dads had it a bit rough without a day in the year to celebrate and recognise their fatherhood (apart from their birthdays of course). These days of course Dads are celebrated by their kids with love and attention, and of course THE GIFT! We have some great ideas for you, but first…
Here’s a bit of history for you!
Did you know that it took almost 60 years for Father’s Day to be officially recognised as a holiday in the United States after Mother’s Day? Yep! Former US President Richard Nixon only signed the official proclamation in 1972 to recognise Father’s Day as a federal holiday. So, naturally, when this happened, everyone else followed suit and almost all countries in the world formally recognised Father’s Day in June. However, here in Australia, that’s not the case – we do it differently.
The reason behind this is simple – we already celebrate too many holidays from April to June. So, the collective minds of marketing geniuses got together to look for another, more convenient date for Father’s Day – and they found the start of Spring, first Sunday in September, to celebrate it.
Now that we’re only days away, you may be stumped for ideas for the all important perfect gift to let Dad know how much you appreciate all the things he does for you throughout the year. Don’t worry – we’ve got you covered! Here are some ideas just in time for Father’s Day that’ll give Dad (and the rest of the family) a well-deserved holiday.
