Set your watch to island time, relax on Fiji’s exquisite white sand beaches, explore their turquoise waters and walk past beaming smiles from the friendly locals. Situated in the South Pacific Ocean with over 300 islands, Fiji is one of world’s most coveted destinations. But when is the best time to travel? Keep reading to find out all the information you need for planning your next island getaway!
If you’re after a peaceful, relaxing getaway without the crowd, it’s best to visit Fiji in their off to mid-peak season. The off-peak season is from November to late March – with the exception of Christmas and New Year. Temperatures reach the low 30’s and only get to around 27 degrees Celsius overnight. Due to the high temperatures and increased humidity you will experience the occasional tropical storm during this time – also known as Fiji’s wet season. This is the best time for land activities such as hiking, rainforest trekking or biking.
If you want the best of both worlds, where the weather is great and there are just enough people to create a great vibe then mid-peak season is for you! Mid-peak times for Fiji come at the end of the rainy period during May to October. The temperatures average from 26 degrees to 31. It may be a little crowded, but nowhere near as jam-packed as Fiji’s peak season, plus prices will generally be lower.
The period of Christmas and New Year is Fiji’s peak season, along with June to September. The resorts are full of families enjoying the Australian and New Zealand school holidays. June to September is a touch cooler than December to January, but still averages around 30 degrees Celsius.
If you’re travelling between June to August, bring a jacket with you. The temperature can get to 16-20 degrees with wind being fairly constant overnight.
There is less rain compared to the wet season, but when it does rain, it will most likely be at night time. If you’re planning to go snorkelling this is the best time as the water is warm and the surf is not too big.
Whilst this is a great time to travel with family, meet new people and have your children make new friends while you soak up some Vitamin D – the peak season prices are usually much higher.
If you’re searching for the best time to sip your favourite drink under a palm tree in a hammock – it’s always the best time!
