Arrived in Alaska after a fairly painless flight – managed to drop off soon after take off and then all of a sudden the pilot says we are landing, perfect!
Alaska airport is rather unexciting but after a very quick exit from security I jumped on my transfer and I’m off to Whittier to board Coral Princess for a 7day Alaska cruise through to Vancouver. We made a quick stop at the Anchorage Wildlife Sanctuary to spot some caribou, moose, elk, bears – black and brown, some musk ox (a remnant from dinosaur days we were told…. Hmmm!?) and some buffalo ( and really cute baby buffalo) check out the cool pics.
Just before arriving we went under a mountain through a railway tunnel that now allows one way traffic either way alternate hours. Pretty freaky – you don’t want to be claustrophobic let me tell you.
So arrived at Coral Princess and straight on board, no hassles (although my case didn’t. Arrive at my cabin for another five hours). Time to explore my comfortable cabin. Outside view through lifeboats – I can still see through, just happy to have a window really. I’m on emerald deck, E331.
Just nearby are the glass elevators that look over a spangly atrium and bar. After a quick brush up I descended to Plaza deck 5 and had dinner in the Bordeaux room. Yum. Cream of mushroom soup and chicken… Ok I had dessert too it was crime brûlée with crunchy toffee on top and silky smooth custard underneath. Thank goodness it’s on the everyday menu because I expect to have six more!
Then it was off to the muster to learn how to put on a lifejacket then I’m afraid it was bedtime for me. I’m exhausted after all that travelling. It will have to be sleep first, explore later. Night!
